Content
History
The decision to create a university was made in August 1991. USSR President M.S. Gorbachev and US President George W. Bush (Sr.) agreed on a joint educational project - Soviet-American University. On September 14, 1991, the Decree of the President of the USSR No. RP-2572 “On the International University” was signed [2] . In January 1992, the status of the university was confirmed by Order of the President of the Russian Federation B. N. Yeltsin [3] . The first president and creator of the university is G. Kh. Popov , the first rector was G. A. Yagodin . The first admission to the university took place in January 1992, and 42 freshmen began classes on February 10, 1992.
Among the former and current teachers of the university are academicians R. M. Entov , A. A. Dynkin and A. G. Asmolov , professors V. N. Livshits , V. I. Marshev , K. A. Michurina , G. A. Kitaygorodskaya , L. M. Grigoriev , S. A. Komarov , politician and statesman G. E. Burbulis , TV journalist M. L. Shevchenko , writers A. V. Polonsky and N. V. Kevorkova .
Among the founders of Moscow International University are the Free Economic Society of Russia and the Moscow School of New Cinema [4] .
Faculties
Faculty of Management of Large Cities
The faculty was established in 2002 at the initiative of Yu. M. Luzhkov with the aim of training qualified personnel in the specialty "state and municipal administration" to work in the management systems of large cities, as well as in organizations associated with the public sector. The educational program of the faculty is built taking into account modern management theory , Russian and foreign experience in managing large cities, Moscow specifics and is aimed at training a new generation of professional personnel for state and municipal authorities at various levels.
Leading scientists, managers and specialists of industry and functional governing bodies of the city of Moscow are involved in teaching at the faculty. Much attention is paid to progressive forms of training, such as business games , case programs, students' direct participation in the implementation of projects and plans of territorial, sectoral, and functional city government.
From 2010 to 2012, the faculty was headed by the ex- mayor of Moscow, Yu. M. Luzhkov [5] .
Faculty of Law
The teaching corps is composed of highly qualified legal scholars who are the authors of all-Russian textbooks and teaching aids, have extensive experience in teaching and research, as well as significant practical experience. The educational process is organized taking into account the wishes of students and their parents, in small groups, and if necessary, in the interests of the student, and according to individual plans. Senior students who speak German can be recommended for parallel studies at the Russian-German University Center, which makes it possible to obtain a master 's degree in European law .
Faculty of Management
The Faculty of Management of the International University prepares specialists in the field of economics and management ( bachelor's degree , specialty , master's program, graduate school). 95% of faculty teachers have the degree of candidate and doctor of science , the title of associate professor and professor. The faculty is taught by professors from Moscow State University , RANEPA , GUU , well-known business consultants, entrepreneurs and practice managers. To familiarize with foreign experience, the faculty regularly invites leading foreign teachers to conduct special courses, business trainings and master classes.
The faculty includes the Higher School of Business and Management (HSBM), which implements a wide range of additional professional programs, including the program for the professional retraining of high-level managers " Master of Business Administration " (MBA), which is internationally accredited by the European Council on Business Education . The retraining of MBA programs at the Higher School of Management passed the heads of major Russian corporations. Faculty of Foreign Languages
The faculty prepares teachers of 2 foreign languages and Russian as a foreign , specialists in the field of intercultural communication (direction “ Linguistics and Intercultural Communication”). Classes are held in small groups, which allows you to individualize training. Students study three foreign languages (two European and one Eastern): the first - English , the second (optional) - Spanish , French , Italian or German , and the third language (paid) - Chinese , Japanese , Arabic or Hebrew .
In addition to three foreign languages, the Russian language , philosophy , psychology and pedagogy, students master the methodology of teaching foreign languages and Russian as a foreign language, rhetoric and stage speech techniques, and acquire skills in professional translation .
Faculty of Journalism
The faculty was founded on the basis of the Higher School of Journalism, which has been operating since 1997 . During their first and second year studies in the undergraduate program, students receive general professional training for working in modern media , including introductory courses in print journalism , photojournalism , online journalism , radio and television journalism . In advanced courses, there is an in-depth study of print journalism, Internet and television journalism courses.
The faculty employs highly qualified specialists - professors of the journalism faculty of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov, Russian State Humanitarian University , IMEMO , famous journalists , editors of major publications, writers , publicists , practicing specialists in the field of Internet media technologies, public relations and advertising . Faculty of Interdisciplinary Research and Supervision
A feature of the program is a combination of fundamental humanitarian education and the practical work of a curator. For the first, leading Russian and foreign theorists are responsible - philosophers, sociologists, historians and representatives of other academic disciplines. For the second - practitioners involved in modern media and cultural production: curators, artists, musicians, designers, programmers, architects and other specialists. The program of the faculty is based on a specific task - to form a specialist who is fluent in modern theory and practice.
The MUM structure also includes units for a second higher education and advanced training: the Higher School of Business and Management, the Higher School of Journalism, the Center for Business Communications and social humanitarian courses. There are graduate school and dissertation council . Pre-university education is represented by the Lyceum of the MUM, the Sokrat gymnasium and preparatory courses for applicants .
