Vostok-1 - the liquidated temporary Soviet polar station . It is located on the plain of East Antarctica 620 km south of Mirny station at an altitude of 3252 m above sea level. The thickness of the ice sheet under the station is 2900 m.

History
The construction was started on March 18, 1957 , on April 12, meteorological observations began, and later: aerological, actinometric and glaciological studies. At the station were a radio station, a power station with diesel generators with a capacity of 12 and 24 kW, a wardroom with a galley and a living room.
On December 1, 1957, the station was closed, and the equipment was transported to the geomagnetic pole region, to the site of the future Vostok station .
