Biography
Born and raised in New York. He studied for one year at an art school ( 1978 - 1979 ) in Boston. Later at the State University of New York and the Commercial Film School of New York (1980-1984). In the period from 1985 to 1988 she made her first short films.
Hartley's first feature film was Unbelievable Truth , which premiered at the 1988 Toronto Film Festival. The film was well received by critics.
