The Moscow Imperial Theater School is a pre-revolutionary boarding school in Moscow that prepared children for work in court theaters.
Founded in 1773 as a private initiative of entrepreneur Mikhail Meddox at the Moscow Educational House , from 1784 it was assigned to the Petrovsky Theater of Meddox. In 1806, together with the troupe of the burnt theater, it entered the state system of the newly created Moscow Imperial Theaters . The school was officially approved in 1809 [1] . Since 1842, after the liquidation of the Moscow theater directorate, it was directly subordinated to St. Petersburg. It was located alternately on Povarskaya Street , 13 (1820s), Kuznetsky Most , 1 (since 1830) and Neglinnaya Street , 6 (since 1863), in close proximity to the Bolshoi and Maly theaters .
After the revolution of 1917, it was reorganized, two educational institutions were allocated from it, now:
- Moscow State Academy of Choreography (prepares ballet dancers);
- Higher Theater School named after M. S. Shchepkin (is engaged in the training of drama artists).
