Biography
| When I write, I'm balancing all the time at the edge of a razor between believable and implausible. Arto Paasilinna |
Born in the village of Alaküla, Kittilä County, Lapland . His father Väinö was a policeman, died in 1951 at the age of 49, the mother was left alone with seven children. Arto Paasilinna, having worked for a long time as an editor in a newspaper, became a famous writer, he is called "a tool for attracting interest in modern Finnish literature." His brothers, Erno, Mauri and Reino Paasilinna, chose the writing field for themselves.
Wife: Terttu Anikki Paasilinna (ur. Casper), two children from his first marriage with Hilkka Onerva: Petteri (born in 1964) and Janne (born in 1967).
Arto’s first novel, Operation Finland, was released in 1972. The Year of the Hare brought him fame, translated into French and screened twice. He was published in Russian by the publisher Olga Morozova in 2006.
In the Paasilinna novels, several films were shot and several performances staged, some were even adapted to comics.
He published, as a rule, one book a year, usually in the fall. His publisher said that the Paasilinna books became the same element of the Finnish autumn as the falling birch leaves. Sometimes he was accused of writing books similar to one another, but perhaps this is his style that provides him with a large number of fans.
In Russian, his book publishes publisher Olga Morozova. Translated “Year of the Hare” (2006), “The Forest of Hung Foxes” (2008), “Charming Suicide Among Friends” (2006), “Gentle Poisoner” (2008), “Howling Miller” (2013), “Son of the God of Thunder” (2013).
