Amphitheater in Syracuse
Amphitheater - the building of the ancient Roman theater in Syracuse , built at the end of the 1st century BC. e. during the reign of Octavian Augustus .
It has a round shape - in contrast to the semicircular Greek theater , located nearby. At the Roman amphitheater, the internal passages were well preserved, along which gladiators entered the arena and wild animals were released. The amphitheater has four exits in the direction of the four cardinal points. This is the third largest Roman arena in Italy after the Roman Colosseum and amphitheater in Verona .
