The system of visual designations for viewing movie categories is the Ukrainian system of assessing the content of a film or other TV program ( serials , some other programs) by a television channel before it is shown and determining the most appropriate age category for this film. The television channel determines the age category of the film at its discretion, therefore, when a film is shown on two different channels, there may be a different designation.
The system entered into force on May 6, 2016 and is currently in use. The corresponding decision No. 306 of March 10, 2016 was published in the Official Gazette of Ukraine No. 33 of May 6 [1] .
According to this system, mandatory marking has been created for all broadcast films and programs, with which you can determine the age category of the film.

Any film should receive one of the three categories of symbols in the lower right corner of the screen - 12+, 16+ and 18+.
Unlimited
This category means that the film can be watched by viewers of any age and no age limit. This category includes most comedies , cartoons , most TV shows ( concerts , comic shows) and films for the whole family. This category includes dramas , action films , some thrillers , mystical films , provided that violence, grief, suffering, death are shown in the most correct form. Aesthetic demonstration of naked body, cruelty , violence , drug use without excessive naturalism is allowed. Horror films in this category, as a rule, are not included. In this category, coarse vocabulary, showing sex , excessive violence, and showing scenes of disasters that cannot be justified for children and adolescents are not allowed.
12+ and 16+
These categories β12+β and β16+β mean that a program or film for minors to view themselves up to specified ages (12 and 16 years old) is not recommended for certain reasons, therefore they are only recommended to watch this movie with their parents. This category includes most action movies , thrillers , horror films, most erotic films, some cartoons, most dramas and mystical films. In this category, demonstration of nudity, fights, the use of weapons without excessive bloodshed, the use of harsh words and profanity, drug use are allowed. However, the degree of violence in the films of this category is still limited. Therefore, films of this category are films with limitations, although in these films problems of nontraditional sexual relations can be affected - provided that they are solved correctly and only on a verbal level.
18+
Films in this category are for adults only. This category includes militants with a high degree of violence, some dramas that are not understandable to minors, thrillers, horror films, erotic films, mysticism. Sexual acts, scenes of violence, cruelty, drug use and obscene language are allowed in these films. These films are shown late in the evening and at night - right up to the early morning hours. The appearance on the screen of this category does not mean that the film is frankly pornographic or frankly dangerous to watch. This means that viewing of this film is prohibited to persons under 18 years of age and contains recommendations to parents not to allow their children to watch this film in order to avoid mental disorders.
Until 2016, all three categories of films were indicated by a green circle, a yellow triangle and a red square, respectively.
Reasons for introducing such labeling
The reason for the introduction of such labeling is not only to inform the viewer about the age category of the film (or parents), but also to prevent the display of erotica or horror on television in the daytime. Such incidents occurred periodically in the history of Ukrainian television. The decision to introduce labeling was taken on May 14, 2003 by a decree of the President of Ukraine βOn Urgent Measures to Strengthen Morality in Society and Adoption of a Healthy Lifestyleβ.
