At the Games, Sheldon competed in shot put and disc throwing . In the first discipline, he became the winner, setting a new Olympic record of 14.10 m. In the second, he finished third with a result of 34.60 m.
Together with him on those Games his brother Lewis Sheldon , who won two bronze medals, performed.
