Biography
Thompson S. Brown was born in 1807 in Brownville, New York (USA).
He graduated from a military academy in the USA. In 1825 - 1836 he was in military service, engaged in the engineering support of fortifications, harbors and roads. Then he retired, with the rank of major, and in 1836 - 1838 he held the position of chief engineer for the construction of the Buffalo - Erie railway, then ( 1838 - 1842 ) on the western section of the New York -Erie road, and finally in 1842 - 1849 years was the chief engineer of the construction of the entire New York-Erie road.
In 1849, he was invited to Russia as the chief consultant for the construction of the Nikolaev railway to the place of the deceased George Whistler .
He completed the construction: the official opening of the road took place on November 1, 1851 .
