George Washington Orton ; January 10, 1873 , , Ontario , Canada - June 25, 1958 , New Hampshire , USA ) - Canadian athlete , champion and bronze medalist of the Summer Olympics 1900 Games, Canada's first Games champion.

Orton was born in Stratra , Ontario . He studied first at the University of Toronto , and then at the University of Pennsylvania . He won several middle distance races in Canada and the USA , he has 121 victories in total.
At the 1900 Games in Paris, Orton on July 15 won the 2,500-meter hurdle race with a score of 7: 34.4. He also became a bronze medalist in the 400m hurdles , finishing second in the semifinals and third in the finals. In addition, Orton took part in the 4000m hurdle race, but took only fifth place in it.
After the Games, Orton became a team coach at the University of Pennsylvania. He is included in several Canadian sports halls of fame.
