History
The robot, named by Giscard Riventlov, was created on the planet of Aurora cosmonites by Dr. Han Fastolph as an ordinary home robot and passed on to his daughter Vasily. Vasily, from childhood inclined to engage in robotics , experimented with his positron brain , as a result of which, apparently, by chance, Giscard acquired the ability to read people's thoughts, as well as control the actions of people and robots. The precedent of the accidental creation of a telepathic robot described in the story “ Liar ” was considered an unreliable legend during the described period.
R. Zhiskar Riventlov kept this ability secret from everyone else, since he believed that it allows him to more effectively fulfill the requirements of the First and Second Laws , while at the same time rightly believing that the cosmonites will not tolerate a robot next to them that can control them. The very ability to influence people was greatly limited by the requirements of the First Law, therefore Giscard only slightly strengthened or slowed down his own aspirations; more active exposure was unacceptable, as it could cause a mental disorder .
Upon learning that Dr. Keldin Amadeiro was secretly studying human-like robot R. Jander Panel with the goal of harming his creator Han Fastolf, Giscard disabled Jander. In the ensuing investigation, Giscard assisted Detective Elijah Bailey and his partner, humanoid Robot R. Daniel Olivo . Although Amadeiro was eventually found guilty, Bailey guessed the true role of Giscard and his abilities, but he never talked about it.
In the last years of Fastolph's life and after his death, Giscard secretly hindered the cosmonite program of exploring new planets, considering the civilization of cosmonites to be hopeless and decaying; at the same time, visiting the Earth with Fastolf, he intensified the desire for expansion that arose among the earthlings. According to the testament of Fastolf, R. Daniel Olivo and R. Giscard Riventlov became the property of Gladia Delmar . After 160 years, they traveled to Solaria , Bailey-Mir and Earth, during which two robots were able to study the life of mankind and formulated the Zero Law of Robotics .
However, Giscard’s brain was not flexible enough to begin to put the new law into practice. As a result, his brain was irreversibly damaged. Immediately before the failure, Giscard managed to reprogram Daniel's brain, transferring his abilities to him and introducing the Zero Law.
