The rural district is located in the foothills and mountains of Greater Sochi . The terrain is mostly mountainous terrain with dense forest cover, rising from west to east. Average altitudes are about 804 meters above sea level. Absolute heights in the upper reaches of the Psezuapse River reach heights of 1800 meters above sea level.

The hydrographic network is represented by the Psezuapse and Tsushvadzh river basins. Also, the area is rich in fresh and various mineral springs.

History

The Kirov Village Council was formed on January 12, 1965 from among the settlements located in the Psezuapse river valley above the village of Lazarevskoye , which were previously transferred to the Tuapse region from Lazarevsky and then returned back. The upper reaches of the Tsushkhvadzh River were also transferred to the territory of the village council.

In 1992, the Kirov Village Council was reorganized and transformed into the Kirov Village District.

The modern borders of the Kirov rural district are established in accordance with the law of 1995 . Nowadays, sometimes another name of a territorial unit is also mentioned - the Thagapsh rural district, by the name of the administrative center of the district.
