Vladimir Mitrofanovich Orlov ( July 15 ( July 3, old style) 1895 , Kherson , Russian Empire - July 28, 1938 ) - Soviet naval leader, commander of the Black Sea Naval Forces , chief of the Red Army naval forces , flagship of the 1st rank fleet (20 November 1935 ). Biography
Born in Kherson in the family of the director of the gymnasium. He studied at the Faculty of Law of St. Petersburg University, but did not graduate. In 1916, drafted into the Baltic Fleet, graduated from the midshipman school ( 1917 ). In the years 1917-1918 - the watch commander of the cruiser "Bogatyr" . In 1918 he joined the CPSU (b) . In 1918-1920 , the head of the political department of the Baltic Fleet, participated in battles against the troops of Yudenich .
In 1920-1921 , the deputy head of the Main Political Administration of Water Transport, supervised its restoration. Since December 1921, he was an assistant to the head of the Political Administration of the Revolutionary Military Council (PBC) for the marine part and head of the Maritime Department of the Republic. Since March 1923, he was the head and commissioner of naval educational institutions.
From October 1926 to June 1931 - commander of the naval forces of the Black Sea.
Since July 1931 - Chief of the Naval Forces of the Red Army. In the years 1931-1934 , a member of the PBC of the USSR. On January 27, 1937, he was simultaneously deputy commissar of defense of the USSR for the Naval Forces.
July 10, 1937 arrested. On July 28, 1938, he was sentenced to death. Shot.
Rehabilitated in 1956 .
