Sudost is a river in the Bryansk region of Russia and the Chernihiv region of Ukraine , the right tributary of the Desna .

It originates from the village of Bobylevo in the Bryansk region , flows through the territory of the Bryansk , Zhiryatinsky , Pochepsky and Pogarsky districts , flowing into Desna near the village of Muravyi (on the border of the Bryansk region and Chernihiv region of Ukraine ).
Length - 208 km. The pool area is 5850 km². On the river are the regional centers of the Bryansk region - the village of Zhiryatino and the cities of Pochep and Pogar. It freezes for the period from December to April. The slope of the river is about 10 cm and its speed is about 4 km per hour. In tributaries the slope is higher and the flow of water in them is faster. The channel has a width of about 10 - 15 m, a depth of 1.5 - 2 m, the width of the valley in Pochep is about 1 km. The average water flow rate is 18.9 m³ / s.
On the shores of Sudosti near the village of Sludyovsk, several archaeological sites have been identified: the village of Sludevsk-II [1] , the village of Sluvsk-III [2] , the settlement “Gorodok” [3] , the settlement of Sludyovsk-IV [4] .

Environmental Issues
In July 2011, a massive death of fish was observed in the Sudost River [5] . Veterinary experts concluded that the oxygen content in the river water is low (four times lower than normal) and five times higher than the permissible phosphate levels. In this case, usually the colorless water in the river took on a pronounced reddish-brown hue, the smell of decay appeared. Rospotrebnadzor experts took water samples for examination, tested for the presence of toxic chemicals and pesticides [6] . The administration of the district, until all circumstances have been clarified, has forbidden local residents to swim in the river, drink cattle and take water for household needs [7] .
One of the possible prerequisites for this situation may be heavy rains that have occurred the day before on the territory of the Bryansk Region (where the Sudost River originates and flows) [8] , after which there was a significant, noticeable “naked eye”, rise in the water level in the Sudost River.
The greatest concern among local residents is the possibility of influencing the pollution of the river operating near Pochep (in the region of which the Sudost river originates) a chemical weapons destruction plant [9] located 3-4 km away from the Sudost river.
