History

Created by order of Louis XIV on the site of the bastions of the fortress wall of Louis XIII [3] . Before the Revolution of 1789, the gardens of the Capuchin monastery went along the south side of the boulevard. Up to 1858, the northern side remained planted with trees, but not built up, and along it was the so-called Lower Street of the Fortification Wall, which passed at the place of the buried moat. In 1858, when the Opera Square was created, Lower Street was leveled and combined with the boulevard. Today, the Capuchin Boulevard is one of the so-called Grands Boulevards .
