Wangdi Phodrang Fortress in Bhutan

Wangdi-Pkhodrang (Vangdupotrang [2] , dzong-ke དབང་ འདུས་ ཕོ་བྲང་ ) is the city and administrative center of the Wangdi-Pkhodrang dzongkhag in central Bhutan [3] [4] . Since ancient times, the city of Wangdi-Pkhodrang has been the capital of the historical province of Vangdi-Pkhodrang .

The city is located around the eponymous dzong , which is located on the ledge of the large Punakha Chu River at low altitudes (about 1000 m), the climate is warm subtropical, so the vicinity of Wangdi is used to grow fruits, including oranges.

Wangdi-Pkhodrang-dzong was built by Shabdrung in 1638 , it is one of the largest and most beautiful dzongs of Bhutan , whose huge courtyard allows you to organize large Buddhist holidays ( tsechu ) and official ceremonies.

The population according to the 2005 census was 6,714 people, and according to the 2012 estimate, 7,507 people [5] .

In the area, in the mountains on the way to the pass, there is also the famous Gangtey-gompa monastery , which is governed by the tulku (reborn) Pema Lingpa .
