Biography

Rebbe Duvidl Squirer was born in Chisinau in 1922 , [1] where his father, Reb Iqsik Squirer ( Yitzhok Tversky , 1888 - 1941 ), was the great-great-great-grandson of a student Bal Shem Tov , founder of the Chernobyl dynasty Menachem-Nohem Tversky (he fled from the pogroms in Ukraine) [1] 1730 - 1797 ). [2] At that time in Bessarabia , and in particular in Chisinau, the Chernobyl Tver dynasty, along with the followers of various branches of the Friedman’s dynasty (Sadagorsky, Stefanesti, Rashkovsky) were the most common Hasidic movements. Since 1911, in Chisinau , there was a courtyard of the Chornobyl dynasty of the Rebbe Arn Menachem Nochem of Tver (died in 1941 ); [3] in 1925, established his yard in Khotyn in northern Bessarabia, Rabbi Mordhe-Isrul Tversky (known as the Khotinsky Rebbe Motel, 1881 - 1941 ) [4] [5] .

The genealogy of David of Tver is also built on Bal-Shem-Tov himself , whose great-great-granddaughter Khan-Sima (daughter of the founder of the Squiric dynasty, reb Hershele Squirera) was married to the seventh son of the Chernobyl Rebbe, Mordhe of Tver, Yitzchock from Squira (1812-1885).

In 1924 , when he was two years old, the family moved to New York and first settled on the lower East Side of Manhattan , then in the Brooklyn area of Williamsburg . Here, Reb Iqsik, the first rebbe of the Squire dynasty in the New World , gathered a number of followers and soon opened the first Squeer synagogue on 45th Street between 13th and 14th Avenue in the Brooklyn district of Boro-Park . This synagogue became the center of the first Hasidic court in Boro-Park, later called Squira-Boro-Park.

Reb Icicles Skvirsky died when his eldest son, David, was only 19 years old and the latter formally headed the dynasty. In 1947, his uncle reb Yankele Squirer ( Yankev-Yosef Tversky , 1899 - 1968 ), the founder of the Squire dynasty center of the New Squire settlement in New York, became the mentor of the new Tzadik. Subsequently, already managing the movement on its own, Reb Duvidl Squirer founded several yeshivas and synagogues in Boro-Park, and in the 1950s and 1960s the Boro-Park branch of the Squire dynasty expanded significantly. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Rebbe founded the large Tomer Dvora schools (תומר דבורה - Deborah's palm , named after the treatise by the 16th-century Safetian Kabbalist Moshe Cordovero ) for girls and Bays Yitzhok (בית יצחק - Isaac’s house , in honor of his father - reb Icikl from Squira) for boys.

Rabbi Duvid Skvirsky and his wife, Rebetsn Esther, had 2 daughters and 5 sons. After the death of his father, the Squire-Boro-Park movement was led by his eldest son, the current Squire Rebbe in the Boro-Park Ikhil-Mikhl Tversky.
