Mark Grigorievich Rozovsky (born April 3, 1937 , Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky , RSFSR , USSR ) - Soviet, then Russian theater director, playwright and screenwriter, composer , prose writer, poet. People's Artist of the Russian Federation ( 2004 ) [1] , artistic director of the Nikitsky Gate Theater. Academician of the American Pushkin Academy , member of the PEN Club , academician of the Academy of Arts and the Academy of Aesthetics and Liberal Arts, twice “Russian of the Year” (2006, 2012) [2] .

Biography

Mark Rozovsky was born on April 3, 1937 in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in a family of engineers.

Six months after the birth of his son, his father was arrested and spent 18 years in camps.

“Rozovsky is not my last name. I was adopted by my stepfather. His name was Grigory Zakharovich Rozovsky, he was an engineer. He just felt sorry for my mom. It was, I think, a marriage of convenience. At least, they didn’t let me know that this was a real marriage. Mother all her life madly loved my father, whose name was Semyon Shlindman. I named my youngest son after him. My mother is a half-breed: Russian and Greek. So, my Russian grandmother alone ... "

In 1938, his grandmother transported him to Moscow.

He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov ( 1960 ) and the High Script Courses (1964). Member of the USSR Writers' Union (1976). Member of the public council of the Russian Jewish Congress [3] .

Since 1958, he led the MSU student theater "Our Home", which became widely known [4] .

After the closure of the theater "Our Home" in 1969, he staged performances at the Moscow Art Theater , at the Bolshoi Drama Theater in Leningrad, in the Theater of Russian Drama , at the Opera and Ballet Theater named after Kirov , in the Academic Theater. Pushkin , in the Theater. Lensoveta in Leningrad , in the Theater. Mayakovsky , in the puppet theater. In the 1960s, he collaborated with the Literary Gazette . He worked in the magazine " Youth ", where he led the popular headings of satire and humor.

In 1975 he staged the first rock opera in the USSR “ Orpheus and Eurydice ”.

In 1983, Rozovsky organized the Theater “ At the Nikitsky Gate ” and became its artistic director. He staged performances: “Poor Liza”, “Doctor Chekhov” (1983), “History of a Horse”, “Romances with Oblomov” (1992), “Uncle Vanya” of Chekhov (1993), etc.

Rozovsky is the author of the screenplay of the movie “ D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers ”, the libretto of the opera “The Fifth Journey of Columbus”. The legendary performance of Mark Rozovsky “The Story of a Horse” (based on the story of L. Tolstoy) was staged on Broadway (USA), at the National London Theater, in Madrid, Stockholm, Tokyo, Seoul, Riga, Helsinki, etc.

Rozovsky is married to his fourth marriage to Tatyana Revzina, director and musical director of the Theater “At Nikitsky Gates”. In the family grows a son, Simon. From previous marriages, the director has two daughters - Maria and Alexandra. Maria Rozovskaya graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of the Moscow State University named after Lomonosov, she works as the head of the literary part of the Theater “At the Nikitsky Gates”. Her husband, Vladislav Flyarkovsky , is the host of Culture News on Kultura TV. Alexandra Rozovskaya - actress of the Russian Youth Theater.

Social position

In 1996 and 2003, he was among cultural and scientific workers who called on the Russian authorities to stop the war in Chechnya and move on to the negotiation process [6] [7] .

In October 2002, during the hostage-taking in the theatrical center on Dubrovka , Mark Rozovsky, who had Alexandra’s daughter as hostages, as part of a live talk show by Savik Shuster, “ Freedom of Speech ” on NTV, called on President Putin to immediately end the war in Chechnya [8] .

In 2007–2008, he was a member of the High Council of the “ Civil Force ” political party [9] .

In March 2014 , in the light of the annexation of Crimea to Russia , together with a number of other prominent figures of science and culture of Russia, he expressed his disagreement with the policy of the Russian authorities in Crimea. He stated his position in an open letter published in Novaya Gazeta [10] .

Scandals

In 2018, on the TV show “ Live ” the former actress of the theater “At the Nikitsky Gate” Fatima Abasculieva accused Rozovsky of rape, allegedly took place 12 years ago. Subsequently, the actress left the theater. Rozovsky responded to the accusation, stating that he did not communicate with Abaskuliyeva at all, and she was dismissed from the theater for her unsatisfactory work.
