Russian Press Day

Russian Press Day is celebrated on January 13th. Established by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation of December 28, 1991 and is associated with the historical date - the beginning of the publication of the first Russian printed newspaper Vedomosti (not relevant to the modern newspaper of the same name Vedomosti ), founded by decree of Peter the Great . On January 2, 1703 ( January 13, a new style) in Moscow , the first issue of the Russian-language printed newspaper was published under the present name “St. Petersburg Vedomosti”, which was then called: “Gazette of military and other matters worthy of knowledge and memory that occurred in the Moscow State and in other surrounding countries " [1] . Peter the First considered the newspaper as an important means of struggle for reform and the establishment of the power of the Russian Empire .

At the beginning of 2009, over 33,000 printed publications were registered in the Russian Federation. On average, every day, distributed more than 20 million copies.

On January 12, 2016, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev presented diplomas to the laureates of the Russian government’s media award for 2015 . The solemn ceremony is timed to the Day of the Russian press. One of the 10 prizes has traditionally been awarded directly by the initiative of the head of government. This time it was won by the president of the faculty of journalism of Moscow State University Yasen Zassoursky - for his personal contribution to the development of the media. Medvedev stressed that for many years Zassoursky defined the main directions of development of national journalism. The Prime Minister also drew attention to the special project “Arguments and Facts” , dedicated to the diaries of the period 1941-1945 . According to the prime minister, the journalists of AiF did a great job collecting dozens of children's diaries of the war years. Medvedev also dwelt on the merits of other laureates. The creators of the TV program “ While All the Houses ” were awarded for the implementation of the project “Child's Video Passport”, and the special correspondent of “Kommersant” Olga Allenova - for a series of publications on the problems of adoption and charity. The awards were presented to well-known literary critic Lev Ivanov-Anninsky for personal contribution to the preservation and development of the traditions of Russian literary criticism, and to the President of the National Association of Television and Radio Broadcasters Eduard Sagalaev for personal contribution to the development of national television. The chief editor of the Brest regional newspaper Zarya (Belarus), Alexander Logvinovich, was noted for “objective coverage of foreign and domestic policy, economics and culture”. The team of the New World magazine was awarded an award "for its great contribution to the development of national literature, wide educational activities and support of modern authors." Representatives of two regional mass media - Surgut Inform-TV and the MOY newspaper - received awards in 2015 from the Voronezh region . The RF Government Prize was established in 2005 "in order to develop print media and stimulate professional activity." Subsequently, they added electronic media and television projects. In monetary terms, the size of each award is 1 million rubles, the total award was awarded to 10 laureates (individual journalists or teams). [2]

Soviet Press Day

 

The professional holiday of publications was first established in the USSR. By decree of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR of January 13, 1991, instead of the “Day of the Soviet Press” - May 5 , which was timed to coincide with the release of the first issue of the Bolshevik newspaper Pravda , a holiday with a new name was created.

In Belarus, the "Day of the press" is celebrated on May 5th . [3]

Since 1994, every year on May 3 is World Press Day .
