Biography

He studied in Basel, then at the Paris Conservatory under Louis Kauzak . The first clarinet of the Bavarian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra led by Rafael Kubelik .

In 1959 , he began his solo career as a soloist and chamber musician. In 1962 he was invited to the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra, which he, a year later, was replaced by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rafael Kubelik. For 30 years, the performer performed solo. He also regularly served on the jury of the renowned international music competition for ARD.

Since 1992 , professor at the Saarbrücken Higher School of Music (in the last years of his life - in the departments of clarinet and chamber ensemble) and Karlsruhe. He toured all over the world, performing on the most famous stages both as a soloist and as a member of chamber ensembles. He also participated in music festivals in Vienna, Moscow, Warsaw, Berlin, Schleswig-Holstein and others.

Eduard Brunner had an extensive discography consisting of 250 works. He edited and recorded the complete works for clarinet by Karl Stamitz and Louis Spur , but mostly performed modern music.

He played in ensembles with Alfred Brendel , Gidon Kremer , Heinz Holliger , Natalia Gutman , Yuri Bashmet . Repeatedly performed in Moscow at the "Dedication to Oleg Kagan " festivals. His works were dedicated to Isan Yun , Edison Denisov , Gia Kancheli , Helmut Lachenman , Toshio Hosokawa , Krzysztof Meyer and other composers.
