Boehm, Gottfried

Gottfried Böhm ( German: Gottfried Böhm ; born January 23, 1920 , Offenbach ) is a German architect and sculptor, a German laureate of the Pritzker Prize ( 1986 ).

Life

In 1938, Gottfried Böhm graduated from a comprehensive school in Cologne, and until 1942 he served in the army. From 1942 to 1947 he studied at a technical institute and at the Academy of Arts in Munich. In 1947, he began working in the architectural bureau of his father, Domenicus Boehm, which he took over after his death in 1955. During these years, he also worked in the recovery society in Cologne. In 1963, he became a professor at the Rhine-Westphalian Technical University of Aachen . In 1976, he joined the German Academy of Urban Construction and Land Planning .

In 1991, he was named an honored member of the Royal Institute of British Architecture in London.

In 2006, the German Museum of Architecture in Frankfurt adopted the works (drawings and sketches) of Domenicus and Gottfried Böhm - Retrospective “Rocks of Concrete and Glass”.

Today, Böhm's architectural bureau in Cologne is headed by his three sons Stefan, Peter and Paul Böhm.
