Prince Alexei Ivanovich Shakhovskoy (1821-1900) - Russian general, participant in the Caucasus campaigns and the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. , the eldest son of Prince I. L. Shakhovsky .

Biography

He entered the service in 1837 in one of the light batteries of the Life Guards of Equestrian Artillery ; he was promoted to officer on April 19, 1842. Gained combat experience in the Caucasus in the fight against the Highlanders . For distinction received the Order of St. 3rd degree Anna with a bow (in 1848) and a golden saber with the inscription "For courage" (in 1850).

In 1854 he was promoted to colonel and on November 18 was appointed an adjutant wing . He commanded the Staroingermanlandsky Infantry Regiment (1855-1857) and the Life Guards 1st His Majesty's Rifle Battalion (1855-1861).

On April 17, 1860, he was promoted to major general retinue, and on March 27, 1866, to lieutenant general (with seniority on May 20, 1868). During this time he received the Order of St. Vladimir 3rd degree (in 1864), St. Stanislav 1st degree (in 1869) and St. Annes of the 1st degree (in 1871).

Before the Russian-Turkish war, he was appointed commander of the newly formed 11th Army Corps and acted as part of the Lower Danube detachment. He commanded the corps from 01/01/1876 to 01/05/1879.

Since 1885, with the rank of general of infantry, he was listed in the reserve troops. He died in 1900.

Family

Children from marriage with Sofia Alexandrovna Olsufyeva (1830-1882), daughter of A. D. Olsufiev and niece of Count V. D. Olsufiev :

  • Mary (1856-1910), wife of Prince N.K. Shakhovsky.
  • Leonty (Leonid) (1859-1918), guard colonel, executed in Pyatigorsk by the Bolsheviks, his son Ivan died a year later.
  • Vladimir (1863-1918), guard colonel, executed with his brother.
  • Catherine (Elizabeth) (1867-19?), Since 1890, the wife of Prince P.M. Volkonsky , they have a son Mikhail .
