The United States Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) is the central civil authority of the United States of America . It was founded on August 23, 1958 by the United States Federal Aviation Act of 1958. Then, in December 1958, the first group of officers of various types of the US Armed Forces was seconded to the agency on a regular basis, their initial number was 36 (18 from the Air Force , 12 from the Navy and 6 from the army ), for interagency coordination and coordination of air traffic issues , sharing of airspace and transportation of military property and military personnel [1] . Functions

  • Management of commercial (non-state) space programs;
  • Promotion and development of civil aeronautics, including new aviation technologies;
  • Civil Aviation Regulation for Security;
  • Development and support of the air traffic control system of civil and military aircraft;
  • Research and development of the national aerospace system ( National Airspace System ) and civil aeronautics;
  • Development and implementation of programs to reduce aircraft noise and other aspects of their environmental impact ;
  • Licensing private and commercial pilots in accordance with the requirements and regulations of the aviation administration. See: FAA Flight License

Structure

The FAA is divided into four “business lines”.

  • Airports : they plan and develop projects involving airports, supervise their construction and operations. Enforces federal regulations.
  • Air traffic management : ensure the safe and efficient movement of air traffic within the national airspace system.
  • Aviation security : responsible for the aviation certification of personnel and aircraft, including pilots, airlines and mechanics.
  • Commercial Space Transport : Provides U.S. protection for launching or returning commercial spacecraft.

Regions and operations of an air navigation center

The FAA is headquartered in Washington, DC and also at the William J. Hughes Atlantic City Tech Center, New Jersey and the Mike Monroni Aviation Center in Oklahoma City . There are nine more regional offices:

  • Alaskan Region in Anchorage , Alaska
  • Northwest Mountain Region in Renton , Washington
  • West Pacific in Londale , California
  • Southwest Region at Fort Worth , Texas
  • Central Region in Kansas City , Missouri
  • Great Lakes Region in Des Plains , Illinois
  • Southern Region at College Park , Georgia
  • East Region in Jamaica , New York
  • New England Region - Burlington , Massachusetts
