
Zhu Da ( Chinese 朱 耷 , 1626 , Nanchang - 1705 ) is a Chinese artist, poet and calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty , known by the pseudonym Buda Shanzhen ( Chinese 八大山人 ), a man from Mount Bada .

Biography
In 1644 he took refuge from the Manchu troops in a Buddhist monastery, in 1648 he became a monk. In 1672 he left the monastery, led the life of a wandering monk-artist. He was distinguished by eccentric behavior, sharp changes in moods. He was friends and corresponded with Shitao . At age 54, broke with monastic life and got married. There are many legends about his life.
A crater on Mercury is named after Zhu Da.
