Creativity
His first film, a short film “Tears in Windy Weather” , was directed by the director in 1978 .
The thesis, the short film “Solo” ( 1980 ), was recognized by many as the best film about the blockade , the main character was played by one of Tarkovsky’s favorite actors Nikolai Grinko . The film “Solo” attended many film festivals and was awarded the IFF Grand Prix of Documentary and Short Films in Bilbao ( Spain ).
A student of Andrei Tarkovsky , who consistently pursues the spiritual and aesthetic principles of the master in his work, Konstantin Lopushansky is one of the few Russian directors to whom the concept of “author's cinema” applies. Calling himself “a convinced and unconvinced adherent of total authorship,” Lopushansky does not accept a compromise in any form and, above all, with respect to himself. He sets himself the most complex artistic tasks, each of his films is a testament to intellectual work and deep personal experiences. The director’s aesthetic landmarks are Ingmar Bergman , Robert Bresson , Kenji Mizoguchi . The place of spiritual and artistic search is Russia . “An organic feature of Russian culture is cosmism, the desire in one work to give the image of the Universe, a metaphor for History,” writes critic Mikhail Trofimenkov in the magazine “Session”. - Without this quality, our culture will lose the brightness and truthfulness that the inhabitants of the "civilized world" are looking for in it. Konstantin Lopushansky is a director who has taken over this “ultimate” function. She goes to him, she - to face. "
From the interview
“The main mission of the cinema is to give a spiritual beginning to the viewer, to help him develop as an individual, grow above himself and adequately evaluate the society in which he lives, pointing out his shortcomings.
Now everyone has literally moved on the principle of entertainment. There is propaganda of the “life as it is” style from the screen: they say, we shoot without any snot, without any false and outdated values, we leave for “pure art”, spitting on the surrounding reality. This approach leads to the creation of absolutely soulless and inanimate cinema, plastic, if you want. This is neither idealism of high feelings, nor hard reality of problem movies. All these stupid tales about bandits and golden youth - well, what kind of normal people live like that?
Every person in life encounters both enduring values (love, friendship, betrayal), and universal human cataclysms (wars, ethnic conflicts, hunger and poverty). You need to make a movie about all this, it is with the help of its tools that it is possible to draw the attention of the viewer to the problems that he passes in everyday life. Not everyone is ready to empathize with the oppressed like this, from scratch, reading newspaper articles and seeing television reports, for him, thousands of human victims will remain only a figure in the newspaper. And cinema is a tool of “comfortable empathy”: sitting in a soft chair, watching the director’s skill, the viewer begins to empathize with the heroes, whoever they are, and then, leaving the hall, he will not hit a foreigner or a homeless person ” [10] .
