History
Early demos, debut album
The band Abigor was created in mid- 1993 by Thomas Tannenberger and Peter Kubik, who used their initials as pseudonyms (TT and PK respectively). Soon, Rune (also known as Tharen) became the vocalist. In the fall of 1993, the first Ash Nazg demo was recorded, and in December, the second one - Lux Devicta Est . In 1994, two more demos followed: Promo '94 (February) and Moonrise (March). After recording, Moonrise Tharen left Abigor (although he later repeatedly participated in recording albums as a session keyboard player), and Silenius (Michael Gregor), permanent member of Summoning, was taken instead. With him, Abigor recorded the demo In Hate & Sin , which fell on Napalm Records . Napalm Records was contracted for several albums, which, in fact, was signed within a week of the last demo recorded, and in June 1994 the debut album Verwustung / Invoke The Dark Age was recorded. On this album, the group tried to convey the spirit of the dark Middle Ages - something that will distinguish the early works of Abigor.
The only thing that interested us was the opportunity to work in a good studio. The first label that gave us this opportunity was Napalm. We do not care to earn money by selling our CDs. We are not interested in money at all. The only thing that is important for us is that we can enter the studio at the moment of readiness and record new material. In addition, Napalm Rec. - not a bad company, Belmez , Korova , Unpure , Summoning , very good black groups are written on it, - Thomas Tannenberger [1]
Thomas Tannenberger subsequently argued that there is a certain similarity between the music of the album and the music of some Norwegian groups, since Abigor and the indicated groups use places with preserved traditions, wildlife and our history as sources of inspiration [1] .
Orkblut - The Retaliation. The continuation of the medieval theme
A few months later, Abigor went back to the studio, and in 1995, the Orkblut conceptual mini-album , The Retaliation , appeared, consisting of 11 tracks (about 20 minutes long) and telling about a pagan warrior who died on the battlefield. In addition to the traditional for black metal instruments, the flute and acoustic guitar were used in writing in large quantities. At the same time, the composition “Shadowlord”, which first appeared on Ash Nazg , was recorded for the collection Napalm Records With Us or Against Us Vol.1 . During this and next year, Abigor released the albums Nachthymnen (From The Twilight Kingdom) and Opus IV , which continued the line of "medieval black metal". The group began recording the album Nachthymnen (From The Twilight Kingdom) back in May 1995, and as a guest musician, singer Elizabeth Torraiser was present at the release. The recording of Opus IV was done headlong: for example, the recording of the first chapter of Horns Lurk Beyond The Stars began in November 1995, and the second Blut Aus Aeonen was recorded by May 1996. In July of the same year the album itself was released.
Channeling the Quintessence of Satan, reprinting demos
In January 1997, in just two days, Abigor recorded an EP Apokalypse that was notable for its speedy and aggressive attitude. In 1998, they released the album Supreme Immortal Art (recorded from November 1997 to January 1998), as well as a collection of songs from the first demo called Origo Regium 1993-1994 (limited edition of 1,500 copies). In addition, in 1998, a 7-inch record of Structures of Immortality was released in a limited edition of 500 copies. In January-March 1999, the album Channeling the Quintessence of Satan was recorded . During the recordings, he left the group Silenius, who had lost interest in black metal, and even earlier Tannenberger left Abigor. Thurisaz, who previously worked with Kubik in his avant-garde side project Heidenreich , became a new singer. The release was released on the Napalm Records label and, according to Tannenberger, became the most mature work of Abigor, was sustained in the direction of intense and complex black metal, and the lyrics were based on the themes of occultism, death, black art, the destruction of the human race and the arrival of a new era . However, at the same time, the lyrical part became somewhat abstract and more difficult to perceive [1] . On May 8 and 9, 1999, a cover version of Slayer "Crionics" was recorded for American label Dwell Records . In November 1999, Kreator's “Terrible Certainty” cover was recorded again for Dwell Records . Both cover versions were compositions for tribute albums that were supposed to be released only in the United States in 2000. Subsequently, these songs will enter EP In Memory and become bonus tracks for the upcoming album.
Satanized (A Journey Through Cosmic Infinity), decay and reunion
In April 2000, the contract with Napalm Records was re-signed for several albums and in October 2000 the band began recording the album Satanized (A Journey Through Cosmic Infinity) (released in 2001). But before that, in August, the mini-album In Memory was released , containing 5 songs, including the covers mentioned above, the rare version of the song Shadowlord, the rehearsal version of Crimson Horizons and the draft Verwustung. Satanized was recorded during October-November 2000 at the studio Tonstudio Hornix :
SANANIZED (A Journey Through Cosmic Infinity) ... designed in the classic style of Abigor ... something between 'Nachthymnen' and Verwustung ', but of course with a number of new elements. Over the past couple of years, we have a lot of things changed musically, although the style of the band is still recognizable [1] .
At the end of May 2000, Thomas Tannenberger leaves the group again, Moritz Neuner takes his place. In 2003, the Abigor group ceased to exist, but three years later, Kubik, together with Tannenberger and the completely new vocalist Arthur Rosard (AR), came together to renew the band. In 2007, the new album Fractal Possession .
In early 2010, the new album Time Is the Sulfur in the Veins of the Saint was released .... In 2018, the 10th full-length album entitled Höllenzwang (Chronicles of Perdition) was released .
