About the album

The release of the album was complicated by Harrison’s conflict with the record company. The original version of the album was rejected by Warner Bros. who demanded that Harrison remove from the album the songs “Tears of the World”, “Sat Singing”, “Lay His Head” and “Flying Hour”, which are managed by Warner Bros. considered too pessimistic. In addition, Harrison was offered to replace the original version of the cover, on which the profile of the musician was depicted against the background of the map of Great Britain.

At the end of 1980, another sad news came - on December 8, John Lennon was shot dead in New York . Having recovered from the shock, Harrison decided to devote to Lennon one of the unfinished songs intended for the album Ringo Starr Stop and Smell the Roses . The single “ All Those Years Ago ”, dedicated to Lennon, with the original text changed, was recorded with the participation of Paul McCartney , Ringo Starr , Linda McCartney and Wings musician Denny Lane .

The final version of the album with new songs instead of four removed and with a modified cover was released on June 5, 1981.

The single memory of Lennon, “ All Those Years Ago, ” released on May 11, 1981, reached 2 places on the US charts and 13 places on the UK charts, becoming Harrison 's most successful hit since 1973.
