During the Second Empire , Bordeaux was the editor-in-chief of Gironde, one of the most influential provincial democratic newspapers. After the fall of the Empire, he was vice-president, then president of the commission for the disassembly and publication of the papers found in Tuleri; a little later, editor of the Journal officiel.

In addition to economic and political articles and several articles signed by the pseudonym Adrien Gilron, Lavertujohn published Histoire de la législature de 1857 à 3863 (Bordeaux, 1863 ).
