The psychological drama "My Man" is highly documentary - its plot is completely based on real events of the first half of the 90s of the last century. Both director Michael Mann and his mastermind Dr. Jeffrey S. Wigand have repeatedly stated publicly that the fiction in “His Man” is limited only to the names of Dr. Wygand’s wife and children, as changed at his request.

Story

Dr. Wygand is the unwitting initiator of the largest US corporate scandal in the history of the United States , which made the scandals with Enron and WorldCom corporations look like a trifle riot of corporate lackeys. As vice president of research and development for the Brown & Williamson tobacco company (their best-known cigarette brand in Russia is Viceroy ), currently part of British American Tobacco , Dr. Wigand worked on the task of creating and putting into production 'safer cigarettes' - Cigarettes that can reduce the occurrence of domestic fires (due to unquenched cigarettes) and the number of cancers . Having built a career in healthcare in companies such as Pfizer and Merck , Wygand became interested in an incredible task from a humanistic point of view, as well as the amount of compensation - a luxury mansion, company car and a salary of $ 300,000 a year. After spending several years at the B&W Science Center, Dr. Wygand learned many terrible secrets that tobacco companies deliberately kept secret from the international community. It became clear to him that in the 20th century, smoking took several times more lives than all the wars of that time - both international and local ... At the same time, the leadership closed its program, citing the fact that "this could negatively affect sales" .

By coincidence, Dr. Wygand was approached by the producer of the 60-minute television program ( CBS ), Lowell Bergmann , who needed scientific advice. Their acquaintance and confidential communication led Wygand to give an “ 60 minute ” exclusive interview, becoming the first high-ranking representative of the tobacco industry to openly disclose all, then inaccessible to the public, secrets of the tobacco business. Despite a divorce from his wife, an unprecedented scale of a desecrating campaign by tobacco workers, and counterclaims (the doctor was threatened with 6 years in prison for disclosing corporate information), Wygand managed to prove the truth of his information under oath. Subsequently, his act led the tobacco industry to multibillion-dollar losses and a crisis that turned the tide of the history of the entire industry. All US tobacco companies were accused by the administration of all 50 states of North America “for unprecedented manipulation of the national public’s mind for more than 50 years,” and paid a total of $ 246 billion in lawsuits.
