Slovak Ore Mountains [1] ( Slovak. Slovenské rudohorie ) is a mountain region in Spišská Slovakia , located east of Zvolen and west of Kosice . From the north it is bounded by the rivers Hron and Gornad . The length of the mountains is about 140 km, width - 40 km, area - 4000 km². The highest point is Mount Capital (1477 m).

The Slovak Ore Mountains consist of independent mountain ranges :
- Spissko-Gemersky Karst
- Muranska Planina
- Slovak Paradise
- Wolovske Vrhi
- Stolitske Vrhi (the highest part of the Ore Mountains , 1476 m)
- Veporske Vrhi
- Revucka Vrhovina
- Slovak Karst
- Cierna Gora
The mountains are mainly composed of granites and crystalline schists ; on the periphery there are karst limestones . The predominantly mid- mountainous relief with separate outcrop peaks . On the southern slopes, mostly oak and beech forests , on the northern - coniferous . There are deposits of iron and copper ores, antimony , gold , magnesite .
