Matiyash Laab ( Croatian Matijaš Laab ; c. 1746, Bison (Besenje), near Mosonmagyarovar - August 7, 1823 , Neudorf-Parndorf ) is a Burgenland (Gradischen) Catholic priest, translator and linguist of Croatian origin.

Biography
A native of the multinational Burgenland [1] , Matiyash Laab lived his whole life at the junction of several language elements. In addition to his native Hradushchansko-Croatian , he perfectly mastered the Hungarian , German languages and, of course, Latin.
For a long time about. Laab was the confessor of the Diocese of Esztergom , and then returned to his native land. Since 1790 Laab served in Chiklesh , then in Heidegsheg, and finally, from 1797 until the end of his life, in New Village. This is the name of this Burgenland town in Croatian. Matiyash Laab published in Buda two catechisms in the Gradian-Croatian language [3] :
- "Kratka summa Velikoga obcsinszkoga katekizmusa: za ucsnyu mlaje druzsine gornyih ug'rszki Horvatov osebito z délan krez Laáb Mathiasa Novoszélszkoga farnika" ( 1814 , 1830 ) and
- "Veliki obcsinszki katekizmus: za Górnye Ugrszke Horváte oszebíto zi délan krez Laáb Mathiása Novoszélszkoga fárnika va Budimu" ( 1820 ) [4] .
