He graduated from the Paris Conservatory , where he was a student of Francois-Joseph Naderman and Nicolas Box . [5] In 1823 he was awarded the second Roman Prize for the cantata " Piram and Fisba ". He performed as a soloist in France and Great Britain. In 1844 he published the theoretical work “School of playing the harp” ( French: Méthode complète pour la harpe ). In 1851 he headed the private chapel of the future Emperor Napoleon III . Since 1867 - professor of harp at the Paris Conservatory. Among his students is Felix Godefroix .
The author of more than a hundred works for harp - fantasies, duets, trios, etc. In addition, he wrote nine operas and ballets, the most famous of which was the ballet Rise in the Serales ( French La révolte au sérail ), staged on the stage of Paris Opera by the choreographer Filippo Taglioni (the main role at the premiere on December 4, 1833 was played by his daughter, the famous ballerina Maria Taglioni ).
In 1862 he was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor .
