Francis Cadell ( Eng. Francis Cadell ; { February 9, 1822 - February 3, 1879 ) is an English traveler .

In 1848 he arrived in Australia , where, after traveling twice on the Murray in 1851 and 1853, he proved its navigability and laid the foundation for shipping on it.
In 1867, Kadell, on behalf of the government of South Australia, explored the western shore of the Gulf of Carpentaria , discovered the Blyth River there and proved the navigability of the Rooper. Kadell later traded in the Indian Ocean and was killed on one of the Banda Islands by locals.
