Biography
The son of the owner of the noble estate of Küstner. He received his primary education in elementary school in his homeland; then continued it at home with teachers. He studied at the gymnasium in Torgau (1860-1868). He studied medicine in Leipzig (1868-1869) and Berlin (1869/1870 academic year). At the beginning of the Franco-Prussian war, Küstner joined the Guards Rifle Regiment and participated in the campaign against France. Returning a year later, he continued his studies in medicine, first at the University of Berlin, and then at the University of Halle , where in 1873 he passed exams for the degree of doctor of medicine. He studied for some time in Vienna and in the autumn of 1873 was appointed assistant at the Clinic for Internal Medicine Theodore Weber in Halle, and in the spring of 1874 he became assistant to the famous obstetrician R. Olshausen .
In 1877 he received a scientific degree of a habilitated doctor of obstetrics and gynecology; worked in Jena as an assistant in the clinic of B. S. Schultz and in 1879 received the position of extraordinary professor at the University of Jena . In 1884 he opened his own gynecological private clinic.
In 1888, Küstner took on the position of full professor and director of the University Women's Clinic at the University of Dorpat ; in 1893 he moved to the University of Breslav . In the 1914/1915 academic year, Küstner was the rector of the university [2] . In 1923 he retired. In 1926 he became a member of the Leopoldin Academy ; since 1928 - her honorary member.
Kustner wrote more than 600 essays, monographs and books on obstetrics, cesarean section, etc. Some surgical procedures were named after him. He was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle , the Order of St. Stanislav of the 2nd degree and the Order of the Crown of the 2nd class.
Since 1890, he was married to Harriet Booth (Harriet Booth; † 1918). They had four sons.
