Flag history
Until 1992, the Republic of Macedonia continued to use the flag of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia (the People’s Republic of Macedonia until 1963), adopted on December 31, 1946, and represented a rectangular red panel with a five-pointed red star in a roof in a gold edging.
Until 1995, the “ Verginskaya Star ” was depicted on the flag of the Republic of Macedonia (a similar flag , but in blue, used in the Greek province of Macedonia ). Like the name of the country, the image of the Verginskaya star on the flag caused protests from Greece , in whose territory the golden tomb of one of the ancient Macedonian kings with the image of this star was found, and the authorities of the Republic of Macedonia were forced to change the flag.
