Biography
Born in Newberiport, Massachusetts , educated by miniature artist Laura Hill .
Ethel, the basis of the creative method of which was a portrait sketch from nature, worked hard and successfully. She received recognition after she designed the book of Gertrude Smith in 1895 . The easily recognizable manner in which illustrations for this book were made became her corporate identity, she began to produce many posters.
The English Punch magazine periodically ordered cartoons from her, while in the USA she worked almost exclusively with the Lemson, Wolf and Company Publishing House in Boston and New York .
In 1896, she left with her mother for Europe. In 1897 they settled in London , where Reed worked as an illustrator and collaborated with the Yellow Book magazine. Information about her future fate is very scarce.
