Kintero was born in Tumaco , but at the age of 5 he moved to Cali . He lived in the Puerto del Sol district with his father and sister. He began his career on the Panaderia Kuta football team. After he moved to the Barça team and played for her in several age categories. Under the direction of Elkin Cohort, Darwin went to see the Argentinean Boca Juniors . In 2004, he was spotted by coach Umberto Ortiz and invited to the Deportes Tolima [2] .

Club career
Deportes Tolima
Kintero began his professional career with the team, initially speaking for the reserve staff [5] . With the arrival of coach Jorge Luis Bernal in the team, Darwin was included in the team's application for the season. Bernal also developed a special training program for a thin football player thanks to which Quintero gained 14 kilograms [6] . On July 18, 2005, in the match against Atletico Junior , eighteen-year-old Carlos made his debut in Colombian Serie A [7] . It was his only game that season [8] . On February 19, 2006, in a fight against Boyaco Chico , Carlos scored his first goal for Tolima [9] . In the fall, he helped the club win silver medals. In the same year, Quintero made his debut in the South American Cup , having played in two matches against Independiente Medellin [10] and the Venezuelan Mineros Guayana [11] .
In 2007, Darwin made his debut in the Libertadores Cup . He was able to score two goals in the group stage matches against Cucuta Deportivo [12] and the Paraguayan Cerro Porteno [13] .
Wings of the Soviets
In the summer of 2007, Quintero, together with teammate Juan Carlos Escobar, moved to Samara's “ Wings of the Soviets ” [14] . The transfer amount amounted to 350 thousand dollars [15] . Darwin still had an option with the Spanish Betis , but a more specific proposal came from Russia [16] . Both Colombians signed contracts for five years [17] . Quintero chose the number “11” [17] . Deportivo Pereira
In February 2008, after passing the pre-season training camp at Wings, under the leadership of the new head coach of the team, Leonid Slutsky, Kintero decided to leave for his homeland, where he spent several months on loan at the club of the top division Deportivo (Pereira) [15] . Carlos played in 12 matches, scoring several important goals [21] and was recognized as the best player of the first half of the season in the new team [22] .
At the end of May, Kintero returned from South America and tried to gain a foothold in the Slutsky team [23] , having spent a two-week training camp in Samara as part of the Wings. However, the footballer did not go to the next training camp in Austria . “Wings” were negotiating with “ Atletico Nacional ” [24] , but the representatives of “Deportivo Pereira” [25] turned out to be quick. On June 17, an agreement was reached on the sale of Quintero to a Colombian club. The transfer amount amounted to 450 thousand euros [15] . In 22 championship bouts, Quintero scored 13 goals and became the second scorer of the championship after Fredi Montero [26] , and also helped Deportivo keep his residence in the elite. According to some media reports, Carlos was recognized as the best football player of the season [27] .
Santos Laguna
At the end of 2008, information appeared that Quintero would begin the new season in the Mexican Santos Laguna [28] . The transfer amount amounted to 4.5 million dollars [29] . In the Aperture of the same year, Carlos again helped Santos reach the final, as he scored again in the semifinals and finals six months ago. In 2012 Aperture, Darwin became the team's top scorer, scoring 7 goals, but the team was unable to reach the final of the Mexican championship and Benhamin Galindo resigned. The new trainer, Pedro Caisinha created a spectacular bunch of Quintero and Oribe Peralta [47] . Thanks to the efforts of Darwin, “Santos” was again able to reach the final of the CONCACAF Champions Cup , where, like a year ago, lost to “Monterrey”. Quintero with 6 goals had to be content with the title of the best scorer of the tournament. During the competition, Carlos managed to upset three times the Salvadoran “ Aguila ” [48] and distinguished himself once at the gates of the Canadian “ Toronto ” [49] , the American “ Seattle Sounders ” [50] and “Monterrey” [51] .
In 2014, Quintero made his debut for Santos in the Libertadores Cup . He played in 7 matches and scored 3 goals against the Uruguayan Peñarol [52] and the Argentinean Lanus [53] . Together with Peralta and his compatriot Andreas Renteria, Quintero made up one of the most hammered bundles [54] .
America
At the beginning of 2015, Quintero moved to America . On January 11, in his match against Leon , he made his debut for a club from Mexico City [55] . In the same match, he scored his first goal for a new team. On December 6, 2015, in the second match of the semi-final against UNAM, Pumas Carlos made a “double” [56] . In the same year, Quintero won the CONCACAF Champions Cup .
In the 1/4 CONCACAF Champions League matches against the American “ Seattle Sounders ” he scored a goal and helped “America” reach the semifinals [57] [58] . In 2016, he won the CONCACAF Champions League for the second time in a row.
Minnesota United
In early 2018, Quintero moved to the American Minnesota United , becoming the first appointed player in the club’s history. On April 15, in a match against Portland Timbers , he made his MLS debut [59] . In the same match, Carlos scored his first goal for Minnesota United. On July 5, in a match against the Canadian “ Toronto ”, Quintero made a hat-trick [60] .
International Career
In 2007, Quintero as part of the youth national team of Colombia took part in the youth championship of South America in Paraguay . In the first match of the group stage against Argentina, he scored his first goal for the youth national team [61] . At the tournament, Carlos also took part in fights against the teams of Paraguay [62] , Ecuador [63] , Chile [64] , Brazil [65] and twice Uruguay [66] [67] .
In 2008, Colombian national team coach Eduardo Lara challenged Quintero to the national team . On October 11, in the qualifying match of the 2010 World Cup against Paraguay, Carlos made his debut for Colombia [68] . On September 30, in a friendly match against the Mexican national team, he scored his first goal for the national team [69] . Due to the high competition in the attack of the national team, Quintero rarely received challenges or was used by coaches as a reserve footballer.

Game Style
Quintero has a high starting speed [70] and excellent dribbling [14] . In most matches, he acts as an attacker [70] , but can play in the midfield. Due to his short stature, Carlos rarely wins air duels [5] .
Personal life
Quintero is married to Valentina Sieerre. They have two children, Carlos Darwin Jr. (March 3, 2011) [71] and Martin's daughter (March 2, 2014). In December 2014, Carlos received Mexican citizenship after five years in the country [72] .
