Maoke ( indon. Maoke - snow -capped mountains) - mountains in the west of the island of New Guinea , mainly in Indonesia . Length about 700 km, width up to 150 km. Altitude 4000–4500 m (the highest up to 4884 m is Mount Punchak-Jaya ).

They are a system of mountain ranges ( Sudirman , Jayavidzhaya and others), stretched from west to east. The axial zones of the ranges are composed mainly of gneisses and granites , and the peripheral ones are composed of sandstones , limestones , and schists . Up to a height of 700 m, they are covered with equatorial forests with a wide variety of species, higher - forests of oak , chestnut , araucaria , eucalyptus , overgrown bushes and meadows. Above 4400 m - sharp peaks with areas of snow and glaciers .
