Parents - Lithuanian Jews Solomon (Avrom-Shloyme) Leibovich Mandelbroyt (1852, Vilna - 1932, Warsaw) and Mirl Iocelevna (Mirjam Osipovna) Rabinovich (1856, Shavli - 1913, Warsaw).

He studied at the University of Warsaw and Kharkov, graduated from the latter under the leadership of Sergey Bernstein . He continued his studies at the University of Paris (graduated in 1923 ), since 1929 - Professor at the University of Clermont-Ferrand, since 1938 Professor at the College de France .

Director of the International Mathematical Monographs series.
