Family and Education

  • Grandfather - Doctor of Theology, Professor of the Moscow Theological Academy Alexander Petrovich Golubtsov .
  • His father, Alexey Alexandrovich Golubtsov ( 1904 - 1978 ), worked as an engineer in the Mosenergo system, in the last years of his life he was a freelance reader in the temple.
  • Great-grandson - Anton I. Golubtsov (1998), works in the Kremlin.

He graduated from the instrument-making faculty of the Moscow Higher Technical School named after N. Bauman , worked as an engineer in a number of research institutes. In the early 1970s, he decided to devote his future life to church ministry. In 1972 he entered the Moscow Theological Seminary, and already in 1977 he graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy with the degree of Candidate of Theology.

Church Leader and Historian

From 1977 - deacon in the church of St. Pimen the Great in Moscow, from 1986 - protodeacon. Going beyond the state, he served in the metropolitan church of St. Nicholas in Khamovniki , where he died during the divine service.

The main works of Protodeacon Sergius Golubtsov are devoted to the history of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra and the Moscow Theological Academy (MDA). He was also the author of a work on the family history of the Golubtsov family, research on the temple of St. Pimen the Great (Moscow, 1997 ), on the Moscow Vvedensky cemetery, on Professor Nikolai Kapterev , a large article "Church Muscovy in 1935-1965." In addition to published works, he wrote an extensive monograph, which was not published during his lifetime. Professor Nikolai Gavryushin recalled that

S.A. independently brought his works on an old computer to the original layout and, for the most part, published at the expense of his own savings. Academic scholarship treated him coolly, although he did so much for the history of the MDA, as not every corporation could implement for several decades.

According to the priest Ilya Solovyov (See Ilya Solovyov, a priest. In memory of Protodeacon Sergiy Golubtsov // Church History Bulletin. No. 12/13. M. 2005 - 2006. P. 252 - 253),

as a church historian, oh. Sergiy Golubtsov was a supporter of following the historical truth without unnecessary, as he said, "civility" and embellishment. He boldly denied all sorts of historical myths, even if they had a “pious” character. Such a method did not always evoke sympathy in the church environment. Despite this, oh. Sergius all his life adhered to a strictly scientific approach, without fear that the story he wrote could cause disappointment or even vexation among supporters of those myths with which he, as a historian and church man, could not reconcile. He did not want to look at the story through rose-colored glasses and did not hide in his works some dark sides of church life.
