History
On October 22, 1919, the Petrograd State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute (PCFI) was founded in Petrograd . The opening of the institute was the result of a long path of struggle of domestic pharmacy for the right for pharmacists to complete higher education. On that day, the constituent meeting of the interim council of the PChFI decided to open the main departments of the institute and approved the provision on the newly created higher educational institution. The first members of the institute's council included prominent figures in Russian science, academicians V. L. Komarov , L. A. Orbeli , G. A. Nadson. The remarkable reformer of pharmaceutical education, Professor Alexander Semenovich Ginzberg, was unanimously elected the first director of the institute. In the summer of 1922, the first graduation of specialists took place. Five graduates were awarded the degree of candidate of sciences.
On September 8, 1924, the Institute was reorganized into the Chemical Pharmaceutical Faculty of Leningrad State University . On October 9, 1925, this faculty was transferred to the 1st Leningrad Medical Institute , and on January 1, 1937, the faculty stood out as an independent Leningrad Pharmaceutical Institute (LFI).
In 1945, the Faculty of Technology organized at the LFI. In 1949, the institute was given the name "Leningrad Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute" (LHFI), it is specialized as a higher educational institution for the training of chemical engineers, process engineers and microbiological engineers for chemical and pharmaceutical plants and antibiotic production plants.
In 1952, a research department (ONIR) was organized at the institute to carry out contractual research work. Since September 1957, the institute has a research laboratory of drugs (NRL). In 1958, the correspondence department of the training of pharmacists at the Faculty of Pharmacy was opened. Two years later, the Faculty of Advanced Pharmacists and Medical and Engineering Workers opens.
Since January 1965, the Institute was granted the right to accept doctoral dissertations for defense, to award a doctorate in pharmaceutical, biological, and chemical sciences. In 1990, the LHFI was renamed the St. Petersburg Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute (SPKhFI), and on April 24, 1996, the SPKhFI was renamed the St. Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy (SPKhFA).
