Dawn is a set addition to the game Magic: The Gathering , which had the working title “Butter”. This is the 44th edition of Magic , having an expert level [1] . The set was released on February 1, 2008 , and the pre-release events took place around the world two weeks earlier, on January 19 and 20 [2] .

Dawn continues the theme of Lorvin , focusing on five main classes (Soldiers, Shamans, Sorcerers, Warriors, and Tramps) and a few other tribes (Druids, Archers, Knights, Priests, and Killers) combined with the eight races of Lorvin (Kisken, Merfolk, Fairies, Elementals, Goblins, Giants, Foresters and Elves) [3] .
Three new set mechanics:
- Looting (Prowl) is a static ability that is present only on cards with a subtype of a creature (Creatures or Tribal). It means: “You can play this card for its Marauding cost, if this turn you inflicted combat damage to a player using creatures with the same subtype as this card.”
- Reinforce is an activated ability played out of hand. Strengthening X - [Cost] means: “[Cost], Discard this card: Put X tokens + 1 / + 1 on the target creature.”
- Kinship is a triggered ability, meaning: “At the beginning of your support step, you can see the top map of your library. If she has the same creature type as this card, you can show it. If you do this, then the effect shown on the map occurs. ”
Along with the set, four finished decks were issued [4] :
- Battalion (White and Blue)
- Going Rogue (Blue-Black)
- “Shamanism” (White-Black-Green)
- Warrior's Code (Red-Green)
