Nevolnichy coast ( English Slave Coast ) - the coast of the Gulf of Benin and the adjacent coastal areas in the territory of modern states of Togo , Benin and the western part of Nigeria . In the 16th – 18th centuries, the Slave Coast was the largest center of the slave trade in Africa , controlled mainly by England and the Netherlands, hence the origin of the name.
From the Slave Coast, slaves were taken away mainly to Brazil and the Caribbean islands . The main ports from which slaves were sold were Lagos , Great and Little Popo , Porto-Novo , Badagri , etc.
