Nautophone

Nautophone, lighthouse, diesel, 1974

Nautofon (from other Greek. Ναύτης - navigator + other Greek. Φωνή - sound) - an electromagnetic emitter of high-pitched sounds of a membrane type.

Mounted on a lighthouse or other coastal facility. It is used in fog conditions and for other reasons of reduced visibility to alert passing ships. Navigational objects on which the hands-free phones are installed are indicated in nautical navigations and on nautical charts by the letter “n”.

Under normal conditions, the range at which the sound of the speakerphone is heard is 15 nautical miles (about 28 kilometers).
