Temple of the Icon of the Mother of God "The Search for the Perished" (Kharkov)

Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "The Search for the Perished" ( Chapel of St. Eugene , ukr. Kaplitsa St. Yevgena ) - Orthodox church in Kharkov , located in the park near the metro station "Nauchnaya" at the intersection of Lenin Avenue and Kultury Street near the monument to soldiers-internationalists who died in Afghanistan .

The initiator of the proposal to erect a chapel to the dead soldiers participating in local wars (in honor of the Russian soldier Yevgeny Alexandrovich Rodionov killed in Chechnya for refusing to accept Islam from Russian soldiers) was made by the Kharkiv Regional Union of Afghanistan Veterans. The consecration of the construction site took place on December 3, 2007 ^[1] . In the summer of 2008, with the blessing of Metropolitan of Kharkov and Bogodukhovsky Nicodemus , it was decided to turn the chapel into a temple for 250 people, which was proposed to be consecrated in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God “The Recovery of the Perished” ^[2] . The temple complex should also include the bell tower and the church park. The project was executed by architects Pavel Sklyarenko, Svetlana Nesterova, Oksana Fedirko. The cross for the temple is made in Western Ukraine, the bells are cast by Donetsk craftsmen.

The temple was consecrated on August 23, 2008, on the Day of the liberation of Kharkov from the Nazi invaders. ^[3]

Archpriest Alexander Zaika was appointed rector of the church.
