Overview
G.ho.st is located on the Amazon Web Services hosting server. To use G.ho.st, you need a web browser with the Adobe Flash 9 plugin installed and AJAX support. OpenLaszlo was taken as the basis for the G.ho.st engine . G.ho.st provides (via the Internet ) work in an environment that mimics the “classic” desktop , which is present in the operating systems installed on personal computers . As with any other Internet service, users can create, save and return to their work environment from various physically existing computers. G.ho.st calls itself a "virtual computer" ( Eng. Virtual Computer ). In April 2007, this software entered the alpha testing phase, and as of July 2007 was still at that stage.
Such Internet services are not operating systems in the traditional sense, although they are sometimes called "virtual operating systems" ( Eng. Web Operating Systems ). So far, they include only a graphical interface (for example, the Desktop), a (virtual) file system and application and security management, but they do not contain a kernel that manages physical devices. Therefore, to use the Internet service, an operating system is required in which this Internet service can be launched.
The company Ghost Inc, which developed the web-oriented operating system G.ho.st, announced that on March 15, 2010 the official website of the project will be closed. At the same time, the developers note that the company will continue its activities and will sell the technology and provide appropriate technical support.
