Faleev, Mikhail Leontyevich

Mikhail Leontievich Faleev ( 1730 , Kursk - November 18, 1792 , Nikolaev ) - a major industrialist of Southern Russia in the second half of the XVIII century, one of the closest associates of G. A. Potemkin .

A nobleman , a state adviser , engineer , director of the Dnieper rapids, the first citizen of Nikolaev . Owned 24,000 acres of land in New Russia . At his own expense, he cleaned the rapids on the Dnieper , trying to make the most dangerous part of the river navigable.

Biography

Came from Gzhat merchants.

He advanced during the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774 , becoming the supplier of the army of Grigory Potemkin .

At the beginning of 1779 , using his own funds, on behalf of Prince Potemkin, he undertook to clear the Dnieper rapids. For this work, Faleev was elevated to the nobility and awarded a gold medal.

In 1781, Faleev received the rank of major , in 1783 - the prime minister , in 1785 - the lieutenant colonel , and in June 1787 - the colonel . In 1790 he received the rank of Admiralty Ober-Ster-Kriegs Commissioner for managing all the cash costs of the shipbuilding of the Black Sea Fleet .

In 1783 he received the nobility. The Faleev’s coat of arms is included in Part 1 of the General Tombstone of the noble families of the All-Russian Empire, p. 113.

In the spring of 1788 he built the Dnieper-Black Sea flotilla in Kherson to take part in the assault on Ochakov .

Since the end of the 1780s, Faleev was engaged in the arrangement of the city of Nikolaev , founded by Potemkin in 1789. Under the leadership of Faleev, the Admiralty Cathedral , the cadet corps were being built, preparations were underway for the organization of the St. Nicholas Monastery, the construction of soldiers’ barracks, shops, cable plants, marble pools, cars, an arms factory, the search for water sources, the organization of plantings, the cultivation of orchards, vineyards, etc. .

Burial

Faleev was buried in the altar wall of the Cathedral of St. Gregory of Great Armenia under construction (later - the Admiralty Cathedral ). It was the burial place of the most honorable citizens of the city.

In October 1936, the crypt was opened and destroyed under the leadership of a group of officials representing the city government: from the Kunsthistorisches Museum - Bartsevich , from the Hydrofin Department - Faermark , from the collective farm - Pobelyatsky , from the NKVD - Berlovsky .

Rewards

  • Order of St. Vladimir IV and III degree (for active participation in the organization of the journey of Catherine II to the south of the empire)
  • The Faleev’s coat of arms is included in Part 1 of the General Herbarium of the noble families of the All-Russian Empire, p. 113

Memory

In Nikolaev in honor of Faleev Faleevskaya street is named and a monument is established. The author of the monument is a sculptor, member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine Viktor Makushin.
