Biography

Father, Yakov Lvovich Travin (1929-2009), worked as Deputy General Director of the Leningrad Leather Association named after Radishchev. Mother, Lina Fedorovna Travina, worked as a scientific editor of the publishing house "Chemistry". Currently retired.

He graduated from the Economics Faculty of Leningrad State University (1983, studied on the same course as Andrei Illarionov and Alexei Kudrin ).

In 1983-1988 he taught economics at the Leningrad Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute .

In 1988-1990 he studied at the graduate school at the Department of Economics of Modern Capitalism (now the Department of Economics of Foreign Countries) of Leningrad State University. PhD in Economics (1990; thesis is devoted to the problems of a large American business operating in the pharmaceutical industry).

In 1991, he worked in the Committee on Economic Reform of the Leningrad City Executive Committee (the chairman of the committee was A. B. Chubais ). In the same period he published several articles on the topic of a free economic zone.

In 1991-2008, the main work of Dmitry Travin was journalism:

  • 1991-1993 - columnist for the newspaper "Rush Hour" .
  • 1993-1996 - columnist for the newspaper St. Petersburg Echo.
  • 1996-2008 - columnist for the weekly Delo newspaper ; in 2001-2008, deputy chief editor.

It was also published in other newspapers of St. Petersburg, the magazines Zvezda and Neva [1] . Permanent participant in the broadcast on the radio Echo of Moscow in St. Petersburg (since 2009 - “On business” ).

He taught at the Faculty of Management , the Faculty of International Relations and the Faculty of Journalism of St. Petersburg State University, at the Higher School of Economics (courses "History of Western Modernizations", "History of Russian Economic Reforms"). Since 2008, the main work is at the European University in St. Petersburg : scientific director of the Center for Modernization Studies.

It is currently published in the newspapers Vedomosti and Novaya Gazeta, and in the Internet publications Rosbalt, Republic, Economytimes.

Family

Wife - Elena Mikhailovna Travina (Korotkova), Ph.D., coordinator of the research group “Old Dachas”, author of a number of books on the pre-revolutionary history of the countryside of the Karelian Isthmus.

Son - Ivan Dmitrievich Travin (b. 1994), graduate student of the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Prizes

Laureate of a number of journalistic contests in St. Petersburg and Russia, including prizes:

  • Professional competition of journalists of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region “Golden Pen” - Grand Prix winner in 2003 - Journalist of the year. In February 2016, he headed the work of the jury of the contest "Golden Pen" - 2015. [2]

Laureate of the International Leontief Medal “For Contribution to Economic Reform” (2008) - “for outstanding achievements in the study of the theory and practice of modernization, the problems of the Russian economy, media coverage of its reform and contribution to economic education”. [3]
