Links in the kinds of troops and types of armed forces

Air Force Link

Depending on the type of aviation, the aviation link can include from 3 to 4 aircraft of the same type ( helicopters ). The aviation link is part of a larger unit: a squadron or unit (regiment, group).

In the course of a combat mission or training mission, the aviation link is usually divided into pairs of airplanes (helicopters), of which one is the “lead” and the other is the “slave”.

Aviation links are distinguished by type of aviation ( fighter link , bomber link , attack plane link , etc.) or by the type of aircraft or helicopter ( F-16 link, Mi-8 link, MiG-31 link ) [1] [2] .

Link in the Navy

In the Navy (naval forces), the link is used only to the division of boats . Usually the link consists of 2-3 boats, which differ in type: the link of torpedo boats , the link of amphibious boats , the link of patrol boats , the link of patrol boats [2] .

Land Force Link

The historical term in the armies of some states in the 1920s and 1930s, which was a full - time unit in the squad .

The link could consist of 3-6 riders in cavalry and 4-7 men in infantry. The link was intended to perform a combat mission as part of a platoon or detachment, or in some cases in an independent order (reconnaissance, security, capture and defense of objects). For example, in the French army, the infantry unit included a machine-gun unit and a grenadier (infantry) unit , each of which consisted of 6 people. In the German army, the infantry squad included a light-gun unit of 4 men and an infantry unit of 7 men [1] [2] .

In the Romanian army in the 1930s, the lowest infantry unit was a machine-gun unit and a grenadier unit . Links united in a group ( branch ). There were 3 groups in the platoon [3] .

At the present historical stage, the smallest (primary) tactical unit in the ground forces is the division [4] .
