Biography

Michael Shanks was born December 15, 1970 in the city of Vancouver , located in the Canadian state of British Columbia .

The years of junior and high school were like amusements and fun. Michael did not miss a single lovely female face, and not a single decent and not very party, as a result, the memory of that extremely carefree time is very, very vague. (“I was too drunk to remember!”, He admitted in an interview).

And yet, the first and most important love, along with a fun pastime, was hockey, in which the young man began to play seriously at 16, as a defender. In addition to hockey, hobbies included rugby and (of course) a theater club.

However, when Michael faced a choice between the career of a professional hockey player and other areas of his life, he shamelessly chose the latter after entering the University of British Columbia .

Having studied at this educational institution for four years (from 1990 to 1994), Michael left there with a bachelor's degree in fine arts. The master was not allowed to become a mathematician, who, being a real curse for Michael, in the end became for him an insurmountable obstacle.

After graduation, Michael decided to take up acting, (by his own admission, he did it under the influence of Richard Dean Anderson , who then played his unforgettable Angus McGyver (" Secret Agent McGyver ")), although this was preceded by the hungry years during which he worked at the wheelhouse trees, and poured concrete.

The next place of work was the Shakespeare Festival in Shakespeare, where he played in Hamlet, Macbeth, Henry V. However, in his own words, the theater was boring, and he played there, expecting a possible role in the "Dungeon of Dragons", although the experience gained without doubt was useful to Shanks.

And then, in a memorable year 1997, Michael went through an audition and a selection for the series “ Stargate: SG-1 ”, taking the baton from James Spader , in the role of Dr. Daniel Jackson.

On the set, he met the beautiful Waitar Bandera, who got the role of the wife of his hero, Shara. By chance, the actors in life became a couple, and a year later little Tatyana was born.

Later, the actor became interested in Canadian Lexa Doig, known for her role in the Andromeda series, where Michael appeared in one of the episodes.

After a divergence of views with the producers and directors of “The Gateway,” Shanks left the series [2] , having played there for five whole seasons. His next work was the appearance in a number of fantastic series.

But, despite the “loud pop door”, Shanks returned to SG-1, appearing first in two episodes as a guest actor, and in the seventh season, he rejoined the permanent cast of the series.

In addition to work, Michael loves spending time with his daughter more than anything else, is still fond of hockey, and loves mythology and ancient cultures. Favorite episode in The Gateway is Vacation.

Personal life

In 1998, Michael Shanks and actress Waitiar Bandera, who played his wife in the TV series " Stargate SG-1 ", had a daughter, Tatyana.

In 2003, Shanks married actress Lex Doig , who also starred in the SG-1 Stargate television series. Michael and Lex have two children: Mia Tabitha (2004) and Samuel David (2006).
